Single-ply membranes are typically applied to flat roofs or very low sloping roofs. The most common type of flat roof uses Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber material. It is a sheet of rubber in a single layer placed on the roof. Being made of synthetic rubber or polymer, they are flexible and elastic and can handle temperature changes better than other types of flat roof materials. 

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is another single-ply roofing system. It also resists damage from UV light, chemicals, and reflects sunlight.
